Who this is for
- Anyone whose Microsoft 365 work or school sign‑in still sends 2FA codes to Brian’s number
- Anyone who need to add their own phone and Authenticator app
Quick summary
- Go to your Security info page and add your phone, then remove the old one.[1]
- Add Microsoft Authenticator and set it as your default sign‑in method.[2][3]
Part 1 — Update your 2FA phone number
- Open the Security info page: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Sign in with your work or school account.
- On Security info, select Add sign-in method → Phone.[4]
- Choose Text or Call, enter your mobile number, and complete the verification.[4]
- After your new phone is listed, click Change next to Default sign-in method and select Phone (text or call) temporarily.
- Remove Brian’s number: find the old Phone entry → Delete. If Delete is disabled, contact your IT admin to unlock changes.[5]
Tips
- You can have multiple numbers (primary and alternate). Keep an alternate for backup.[4]
- If the UI looks different, your organization may enforce specific methods; follow what’s offered or contact IT.[5]
